The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, has had profound impacts on societies worldwide since it was first identified in late 2019. COVID-19 has resulted in significant illness, hospitalizations, and deaths globally. Symptoms range from mild respiratory issues to severe pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), particularly in vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
